This famous flea market is the largest of Amsterdam. About 300 stalls offer
anything from bric-a-brac, great second-hand and new clothes to food, old
records and DVD’s. The Waterlooplein market is also the oldest market of
Amsterdam.

The original outdoor market dates from 1893 and was a busy
Jewish market, but this was ended by World War II. In the 1950s prosperity in
the Netherlands improved and the market was reborn. Flower Power took over the
market in the 60s and 70s, when Amsterdam was a magnet for the hippies. Nowadays
it has become touristy and prices have gone up, but if you take your time, you
might find something unexpected!
