Hostels Amsterdam Festival & Events

Every year on May 4th, 8pm exactly, all inhabitants of the Netherlands are silent for 2 minutes to commemorate all civilians and soldiers who have died during World War II or any war or peace operation since.

If you are in Amsterdam on Remembrance Day, you will see how all trams and buses will stop and hundreds of people will gather on Dam Square to share this moment of silence. On Dam Square there will be a speech by the prime minister and Queen Beatrix will also be present. On many other locations in the Netherlands will be a similar gathering.
