On Liberation Day (or 'Bevrijdingsdag'), the Dutch celebrate the liberation of the Netherlands after 5 years of occupation during World War II. The 5th of May has become a day to celebrate values like freedom and tolerance. Each year there are free music festivals all over the country. The Amsterdam Liberation Festival is held on the Museum Square, but Haarlem, Den Haag and Utrecht are also worth checking out.
