The Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam
Plantage Middenlaan 2a 1018 DD Amsterdam The Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. The garden was established by the Amsterdam city authority in 1638 as a "Hortus Medicus", a herb garden for the physicians and pharmacists of Amsterdam. The Hortus has occupied its present location in the Plantage district since 1682, and is a green oasis in the middle of the bustling city Museum open Opening hours
Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Hortus is closed on 1st January and 25th December (Christmas Day). In December and January the garden closes at 16:00 p.m.
how to get there
The Hortus is easy to reach by public transport: tram 9 and 14 (stop "Mr. Visserplein"), or subway (metro stop: "Waterlooplein", exit "Hortusplantsoen"). The nearest parking garage is "Waterlooplein". |
