I absolutely LOVED the Hotel de Stern. The staff was unbelievable friendly. It was three girls travelling without any dudes and they completely treated us wonderfully. Check in was pleasant and the owner was super sweet , offering us snacks. We left our bags behind the counter as we left to get pot and they got our room ready, but unfortunately, we returned before anyone could help us get our bags up the stairs when we got back (more about that later). Anyhow we forutnately didn't have to go far to find herb... there's a coffeeshop right next door!! (may not the best prices, but you can't beat the convenience. C'mon, we're potheads!)
We stayed for 5 days, and everyday after we would leave, they'd come in and clean our room and change the linens and vacuum. We left all our belongings out (iPods, cell phones, and even cash at one point) and nothing was stolen (and sure, it wasn't the smartest idea, I just mention it to illustrate the trustworthiness of the staff).
The downstairs part is a kebab shop. Fuck yeah. I said it. A kebab shop. Now, we never ate there b/c we were constantly spending our time at Hagen Daas and Burger King, but once again, you can't beat the convenience.
The location is good... nothing is ever that far of a walk away. 15 minutes max to get to the Red Light District. Lots of food options are close. Coffeeshops near by.... Just make sure you're with someone that has a good sense of direction... but that's a general rule for tromping about Amsterdam.
The room was nice, too... it was spacious enough for three girls to chill out and be comfortable for nearly a week. No complaints there.
I only have 3 complaints elsewhere. First, the stairs are fuckin' insane. They're hella steep and shallow (you have to turn your foot sideways to get up a few) and getting the bags up there was reDONCulous. I'm sure had we asked or waited, they would've helped, but oh well. If you're gonna carry your own shit and stay this hotel, my advice is to pack lite.
Second, they don't have cable. That's kinda weak. When you're in the room getting blazed (b/c HELLZ YES, they let you smoke there. AWESOME SAUCE
) there isn't much to watch but.... TMZ or whatever the music channel is there... and the videos are all pretty much the same. But as long as you got a little somethin' to toke, you'll get over it.Hell, it might even make your trip better like it did mine.
So, that's not really a complaint. <_<
And last, the bathroom. Boy howdy, was that dumb. There is no bathtub. I mean, there's a nozzle... a showerhead in the bathroom, but the floor and drain in the area that'd be considered the floor of the tub is on the same level as the rest of the floor, there is no dividing wall AND isn't recessed in any manner to make the water flow into the drain. Bottomline, you take a shower, you flood out the entire bathroom... toilet area, sink area, all of it. It is even possible to make the water run on to the carpert. I don't know if this is the case in all rooms, but it was in ours. The plus to this is that it allows for funny stories b/c of the shit that went down in there, and they cleaned our room everyday, so we showered and then left... when we returned, it was dry and clean. :]
So, there you go. All-in-all, I 20000000000000000% give my approval to this hotel and would recommend it to anyone I knew that was going to Amsterdam. I hope it provides the setting for life-long memories for you like it did me.

We are located in the heart of Amsterdam at the Rembrand Square, which is a lively, central location full of discotheques, coffee-shops, restaurants and bars.
